A new information board has recently been installed on the castle grounds. It refers to the Prussian army’s march through the town in 1806. <\/p>\n\n

A new information board was recently installed on the castle grounds in Wolmirstedt. The sign, which hangs just to the right behind the office gate as you enter the castle domain, refers to the retreat of the Prussian army defeated at the double battle of Jena and Auerstedt in 1806. Under the command of their commander-in-chief, Prince Hohenlohe, the Prussian army marched from Magdeburg and Haldensleben to Rog\u00e4tz in order to cross the Elbe. <\/p>\n\n

It also passed through Wolmirstedt on October 21, 1806. The newly installed plaque, designed by Berlin historian Stefan H\u00fcckler, now commemorates these events. Together with his late son Jonas H\u00fcckler, he founded the “Interessengemeinschaft Historienwanderweg 1806” (1806 History Trail Interest Group) back in 2015. The history trail thus named is intended to connect a number of places from Auerstedt to Prenzlau. <\/p>\n\n

“We have already equipped almost all of these places with the corresponding information boards. Wolmirstedt is one of the last that was still missing,” said Stefan H\u00fcckler at the on-site meeting at the Wolmirstedt castle domain. The history trail is designed for cyclists and is divided into several sections, which are listed in the Komoot cycling and hiking route app. More detailed information is available at https:\/\/www.historienwanderer.de\/index.php\/historienwanderweg-1806<\/a>. Stefan H\u00fcckler and his colleagues have also published paper hiking guides for their history trail. <\/p>\n\n

The Berliner came to Wolmirstedt not only to set up his information board. “I’m sure I’ll be on site a few more times, because I’m planning events together with the museum where I want to talk about the events of 1806 in Wolmirstedt,” the historian looks ahead. Worth knowing: The sign was financed by donations and will be maintained by the interest group in future. <\/p>\n\n
