35 years in the city administration

Wolmirstedt’s mayor Marlies Cassuhn was recently presented with flowers and a certificate by her deputy, Jens Sonnabend, head of the building and public order department, and by her longstanding colleague Lutz Neumann, acting head of the youth, culture, sport and social affairs department.

The occasion was a special anniversary: Marlies Cassuhn has been working for the Wolmirstedt city administration for 35 years. Back then, she was employed as Head of the Department of Schools, Culture and Sport. “We were still working under the roof of the old town hall, and later in the Pioneer House in Fabrikstraße,” recalls the mayor.

Gradually, she was given more and more responsibilities: as head of office, she was initially given responsibility for the areas of youth, health and social affairs and eventually also the public order office and the building authority. In 1999, Marlies Cassuhn also became deputy mayor of the town of Wolmirstedt and held this position – with a six-month break – until her own election as mayor in 2018.

So she always had a lot to do at the town hall. “They were busy years, which were often very exciting,” she says. Soon, however, she will have reached her well-earned retirement. Mayoral elections will be held in Wolmirstedt again on September 7, 2025, and Marlies Cassuhn will not be standing again. Her term of office ends on December 5, 2025.
