Wolmirstedt Advent market lends the castle domain a Christmassy glow
Wolmirstedt has a pre-Christmas tradition: every year on the first weekend of Advent, the town’s Advent market is held on the castle grounds. In 2025, the historic square was once again wrapped in Christmas splendor for three days, from Friday to Sunday. There were rides – such as a small chain carousel for children, a bumper car and a Ferris wheel – stalls selling tasty treats and stands selling all kinds of handcrafted goods.
Various institutions also took part in a varied program. The daycare centers “Storchennest”, “Ohrespatzen”, “Pusteblume” and “St. Katharinen” performed as well as the Wolmirstedt after-school care center, the OK Live Ensemble, the wind ensemble of the Wolmirstedt music school and the duo “Handgemacht”. There was also more music from the “Sternenbläsern”, performances by the primary school pupils from the Diesterweg elementary school, members of the Wolmirstedt mixed choir, the “Kolorit” ensemble from Katharina e.V. and the “Weinbergmusikanten” Hohenwarthe.
On all three days, there were also activities such as handicrafts, a coffee table and ceramics sales in the community center, and on Friday and Saturday the library was also open and offered visitors a “colorful Christmas”.
However, the clear star of every day was Santa Claus! The youngest guests awaited him full of anticipation, slipped him their wish lists, whispered wishes in his ear and received little sweets from the man in the red coat. But the adults were also enchanted by the bearded man, who was immortalized in many photos and selfies that day.
