WWG again awarded “Green House Number” for apartment block refurbishment
Wolmirstedter Wohnungsbaugesellschaft (WWG) has received a special award: The housing company, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the town of Wolmirstedt, was honored with the “Green House Number Saxony-Anhalt” – a prize that the Saxony-Anhalt State Energy Agency (LENA) has been awarding for several years. This is aimed at owners of newly built or renovated residential buildings that achieve certain defined energy standards above the statutory minimum requirements or play a pioneering role in the field of sustainable construction and renovation.
The high-ranking prize, which was presented to WWG Managing Director Anke Gärtner by the Managing Director of the State Energy Agency, Marko Mühlstein, and State Secretary Thomas Wünsch from the Ministry of Science, Energy, Climate Protection and the Environment, was awarded to the company for the complete refurbishment of the apartment block at Samsweger Strasse 68 to 73.
On behalf of Wolmirstedt’s mayor Mike Steffens, Marko Kohlrausch, Head of Finance at the City of Wolmirstedt, congratulated WWG. “As a town, we are absolutely proud of this award, because Wolmirstedt is taking on a pioneering role,” explained Marko Kohlrausch. The “Green House Number” is not the first that the Wolmirstedt housing association has received. The company was already honored with the award in 2023 – back then for the refurbishment of Samsweger Straße 60, where WWG has its headquarters. The housing association is currently in the process of renovating the other blocks of flats in the “Rathauseck” residential quarter. The entire district is then to become a green district.
The residential complex, which has now been awarded the “Green House Number”, dates back to 1971, comprises 68 residential units and was renovated to an Efficiency House 85 in 2023. Two photovoltaic systems with a total output of 46 kWp cover part of the electricity requirements. Heat is supplied via the municipal district heating network, while a central ventilation system ensures a sufficient supply of fresh air.
For this commitment, WWG received a custom-made enamel house number for the property at Samsweger Strasse 68-73 as well as a certificate in recognition of its special commitment to climate protection. The tradesmen involved in the refurbishment were also presented with their own certificate.
The awards competition for the “Saxony-Anhalt Green House Number” and the “Saxony-Anhalt Green House Number PLUS”, launched by the Saxony-Anhalt State Energy Agency GmbH, began in November 2017. With the latest award ceremony, a total of 82 Green House Numbers can be found in the state, six in the Börde district and two in Wolmirstedt.
