The town of Wolmirstedt hosted a successful New Year’s reception on February 14. Around 150 guests accepted the invitation to the Katharinensaal on the castle grounds. In addition to official representatives such as the district administrator of the Börde district, mayors from neighboring communities and the like, they included people from the town who shape the townscape. These included local mayors, representatives of associations, fire departments, town and district councils, business representatives and many more.

Together they enjoyed an atmospheric morning, during which three Stadttaler were awarded. Golden town talers went to Rolf Knackmuß and Swen Pazina, a silver town thaler to Lucy Zieske. Rolf Knackmuß has been a volunteer in the Wolmirstedt district of Farsleben for decades – among other things, he was on the local council and served as mayor for 15 years. He is an active member of the “Webers Hof” cultural association, was active in the mine fire department in Zielitz for many years and is a member of the Farsleben fire department support association.

Swen Pazina was an active member of the Wolmirstedt fire department for many years and held various positions there. Today, he is a member of the support association and is also active in the town council. Swen Pazina made a particular contribution to the comprehensive renovation and conversion of the listed railroad station building in Wolmirstedt, which is a landmark of the town, through his work at Bodelschwingh-Haus.

Lucy Zieske has not only been an outstanding sportswoman at the Wolmirstedt Table Tennis Club (TTC) since childhood, but also works there as a volunteer coach, helping to train the next generation of players several times a week. The town of Wolmirstedt not only wants to honor established volunteers for their services, but also to emphasize that commitment is always commendable – regardless of age group. Lucy Zieske is a perfect example of how even young people can make an outstanding contribution to their town and region.

The three award winners signed the town’s Golden Book. The deserving poultry breeder Wolfgang Meyer, who had already been awarded a Goldener Stadttaler in November 2025, also made up for this.

The former mayor of Wolmirstedt, Marlies Cassuhn, was also given a fitting send-off at the New Year’s reception. She received flowers and a gift and also wrote her name in the town’s book of honor.

Greetings came from Börde District Administrator Martin Stichnoth and the mayor of Wolmirstedt’s twin town Wunstorf, Carsten Piellusch. The invitation to the New Year’s reception was also accepted by former mayors and town council chairmen, who were delighted to see each other again and had many anecdotes to tell about the town’s history.

Wolmirstedt’s mayor Mike Steffens emphasized that the town of Wolmirstedt and its districts would not have developed into the liveable town it is today without the commitment of many of the guests present. He looked back on the developments of the past year and also looked ahead to everything that is set to happen in Wolmirstedt in 2026. In addition to construction projects and investments, these include the town’s traditional events, which can also be found on the town’s website at www.stadtwolmirstedt.de/veranstaltungen.
