Citizens whose identity documents are about to expire should apply for new ones in good time. The Wolmirstedt Residents’ Registration Office would like to point out that it can sometimes take several weeks after applying in person before the desired document can be collected.
The processing time for an identity card is up to three weeks, for a passport even six to eight weeks. It is therefore advisable to make an appointment for the application in good time. This can be done online on the Wolmirstedt website at https://stadtwolmirstedt.de/leben/terminvergabe-einwohnermeldeamt/ or during the town council’s office hours by calling 039201/646. Citizens can also visit the residents’ registration office during office hours without an appointment, but must then expect to wait.
Anyone wishing to apply for a new identity card or passport must always appear in person at the town hall. This also applies to children: if you are applying for a passport for a child, the child must be present. The old ID card, birth or marriage certificate and a digital biometric passport photo are also required, although these can also be taken at the photo machine in the town hall for six euros. Minors also need the consent of both parents and the parents’ IDs to apply for a new ID document. Fingerprints are taken from the age of six. Both documents can be collected either in person or with a power of attorney.
The fee for a new ID card is 27.60 euros for people under 24 and 46 euros for people aged 24 and over. A new passport costs 37.50 euros for people under 24 and 70 euros for people over 24. An express application can be made for passports for a surcharge of 32 euros. This then takes around five working days instead of six to eight weeks. However, this option is not available for ID cards.
By the way: ID documents for people under the age of 24 are valid for six years, for people over 24 they are valid for ten years.
