Wolmirstedt doesn’t take first place at the MDR Jump Easter bonfire, but celebrates anyway
Voting for the “MDR Jump Osterfeuer 2026” ended on Sunday evening, March 29. The town of Wolmirstedt was unable to secure enough votes to win the event. The winner was the Saxon town of Olbernhau.
“We congratulate Olbernhau,” says Wolmirstedt’s mayor Mike Steffens and explains that taking part in the competition has had a positive impact on the town of Wolmirstedt despite not winning. For example, Wolmirstedt was featured several times on the radio and on social media channels for weeks, making the town better known across the region.
“I would like to thank everyone who voted for us, who invested a lot of time in making Wolmirstedt better known,” says Mike Steffens. The mayor warmly thanks the associations that supported the town. The Wolmirstedt fire department and, above all, the Wolmirstedt canoe club deserve special mention.
Even without the big party stage of the “MDR Jump Easter bonfire”, there will be celebrations in Wolmirstedt: The traditional Easter bonfire of the Wolmirstedt Canoe Club will take place on Saturday, April 4, at the Elbeu boathouse, starting at 6 pm. In addition to drinks and food, there will be live music.
