Karin and Diethardt Misch are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary
When Diethardt Misch and his classmates had reached the halfway point of their civil engineering program, they celebrated. But the class consisted almost entirely of men. “To make the party a little more fun, we also invited a class from the medical technical school—since there were a lot of women there,” recalls Diethardt Misch with a laugh. And the plan worked: Among the young women was Karin, who found Diethardt Misch’s sense of humor simply delightful.
That is how the couple met and fell in love. Today, Karin and Diethardt Misch have been married for 65 years. Wolmirstedt’s mayor, Mike Steffens, personally congratulated them on their iron wedding anniversary and presented them with a gift and a certificate.
The couple still lives in the house they built almost entirely on their own in the early 1970s. Diethardt Misch, a trained mason and civil engineer, knew a thing or two about building houses thanks to his profession. He served as chairman of the AWG in Wolmirstedt for four years, was also a member of the district planning group, and worked in project planning. Thus, during his career, Diethardt Misch also oversaw many construction projects in the town of Wolmirstedt.
Many residents of Wolmirstedt have seen Karin Misch before, as the trained nurse first worked at the tuberculosis clinic and later traveled throughout the former district as a vaccination nurse.
The Mischs have two children: their daughter Heike was born in 1963, and their son Jörg in 1968. Two grandsons round out the family.
So how have Karin and Diethardt Misch managed to stay married for 65 years and still love each other today just as much as they did on their first day? “We’ve always gotten along well and shared the same interests. And besides, the chemistry between us has always been right,” says Karin Misch. “My husband is a really funny guy who loves to tell jokes. And I love to laugh,” the jubilant bride reveals with a smile.
