Roads near the train station will be completely closed

Starting Monday, July 27, Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße will be completely closed in the area of the bus station and the train station forecourt. Specifically, this affects Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße from the turn onto Zur Grube to the curve where it turns into Bahnhofstraße. The reason for this is the ongoing renovation of the train station forecourt and the bus station, as part of which the adjacent section of the street is also being upgraded.

The road closure is expected to last until September 18. Traffic patterns in this area will be altered for the entire duration. Specifically, Zur Grube will become a one-way street for traffic coming from Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße. The changes will be clearly marked with signs.

The buses, which—due to the renovation—are currently not departing from the bus station but from temporary stops on Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße, can still depart and turn onto Zur Grube from the station parking lot. The parking lot will continue to be accessible to the public via Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße.

The renovation of the train station plaza and the adjacent bus station has been underway since September 2025 and is expected to continue until early October 2026. The primary goal of the construction work is to make the area accessible to people with disabilities.

While the station plaza is already largely complete, work is currently underway at the bus station. Paving work is currently being carried out there, and the new bus platforms are already visible. New streetlights have also been installed. A covered waiting shelter for passengers will also be built soon.

In addition, plans call for the construction of new bicycle parking facilities and the addition of two parking spaces equipped with electric vehicle charging stations. Furthermore, the bus waiting areas and the forecourt will be visually enhanced by adding new landscaping consisting of shrubs and trees.

The “Station Forecourt” construction project is part of a package of measures. This also includes the installation of two elevators and the construction of a pedestrian tunnel, both of which have already been completed. In addition, a loading ramp is to be built; however, this construction project will not take place until after the station forecourt has been redesigned and the property has been released by DB. The renovation will cost approximately 1.99 million euros, with Nahverkehrsservice Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH (NASA) covering 80 percent of the costs. Consequently, the city of Wolmirstedt will contribute approximately 400,000 euros.
