Shaping the Future of Energy Together
How can municipalities further improve their energy efficiency and learn from one another? These were the very questions that took center stage at the 26th Intermunicipal Energy Management (IEM) network meeting on September 2, 2026, in Flechtingen.
Representatives from municipalities, cities, and the Flechtingen Association of Municipalities discussed current developments, shared experiences, and outlined next steps.
There was a particularly inspiring presentation on the topic “Communication Creates Warmth.” It became clear that district heating planning is not an abstract topic but can serve as an invitation to a lively exchange. Participants discussed together how the results of municipal district heating planning can be further refined and put into practice.
In addition, the discussion focused on the further development of the IEM network, an update on a “pyrolysis” project, and the potential applications of artificial intelligence in local government. The concluding exchange of experiences provided an opportunity to share best-practice examples and concrete suggestions drawn from everyday municipal life.
