Alfred Knispel celebrates his 95th birthday

Alfred Knispel has never met the mayor of Wolmirstedt, Marlies Cassuhn, or any of her predecessors. And this despite the fact that he has already reached the proud age of 95. No wonder, because Alfred Knispel is not from Wolmirstedt at all. He and his wife Anneliese only moved to the town on the River Ohre five years ago. The couple previously lived in Potsdam.

Daughter Ines and son Holger also lived further away – now they all call Wolmirstedt the center of their lives. Moving to a different area is in Alfred Knispel’s blood, so to speak, as he was a professional soldier for 25 years. Over the years, the whole family has therefore repeatedly moved to new places in Brandenburg, Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. And when the apartment in Potsdam was no longer comfortable for certain reasons, Alfred Knispel and his wife quickly looked for something suitable in Magdeburg and the surrounding area and found it in Wolmirstedt.

Marlies Cassuhn was finally able to congratulate the jubilarian on his 95th birthday on August 12. Alfred Knispel comes from northern Silesia and was expelled from there with his family during the Second World War, and a second time from the Sudetenland. He met his wife Anneliese during the flight. In 1946, Alfred Knispel first went to Görlitz to join his father, where he started work as a steelworker in wagon construction. In 1952, he became a professional soldier, and then the family started moving house. “There were times when things got rough,” Anneliese Knispel says honestly, but praises her husband in the same breath: “He was actually always the one who cooked and baked for us.” Alfred Knispel no longer does that today, because age no longer allows it.

The whole family celebrated their father on his special day. At the weekend, they will go to a restaurant to celebrate once again. By the way: the Knispel family’s next anniversary is coming up in October. Anneliese and Alfred will then celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.

On behalf of the town of Wolmirstedt, all the best to the jubilarian!
