City cycling” campaign

City of Wolmirstedt takes positive stock of the first “City Cycling” event

In 2025, the city of Wolmirstedt participated for the first time in the “City Cycling” campaign, which is known as the world’s largest cycling campaign and aims to encourage citizens to pedal as many kilometers as possible in order to promote cycling, promote climate protection and create a better quality of life in local communities.

Everyone who lives, works, is involved in a club, attends a school or is otherwise connected to the town of Wolmirstedt and its districts was invited to take part. The town council is extremely pleased with the results of the first participation.

For example, 306 active cyclists took part in the “City Cycling” event, which took place from August 25 to September 14, 2025. 18 teams were formed. Together, all participants cycled a total of 42,128 kilometers – a proud achievement, as Wolmirstedt’s mayor Marlies Cassuhn also attested. With the 5,031 journeys they made, all participants in the Wolmirstedt “Stadtradeln” avoided a whole seven tons of CO2.

The city held an award ceremony as part of the regional market on October 4 in the museum barn. The first, second and third place winners in the categories “Cyclist with the most kilometers”, “Team with the most kilometers” and “Team with the most kilometers per capita” were honored. Marlies Cassuhn presented each of the winners with a trophy and a bottle of sparkling wine.

Following its successful start, the town of Wolmirstedt would like to take part in the “City Cycling” campaign again next year. The specific period has not yet been determined, but will be announced in good time. The town administration is looking forward to every participant who will take part in “City Cycling” again next year or for the first time.

    Many thanks for cycling!
