Persistent sub-zero temperatures over the last few days have caused many bodies of water to freeze over. Even if lakes and ponds are completely covered in ice and appear to be stable, caution is advised: One wrong step can be life-threatening.
The city of Wolmirstedt therefore strongly advises against walking on ice. Even if temperatures remain below freezing point for several days, frozen bodies of water are not always stable. Fluctuations in heat and cold can make the ice unstable, and currents and plants under water can thin it out.
