Funding for stadium construction

City of Wolmirstedt receives around 2.7 million euros in state funding for new stadium construction

The first city council meeting of the city of Wolmirstedt on February 20, 2025 began with great joy. At the beginning of the event, Klaus Zimmermann, State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior and Sport of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, presented Mayor Marlies Cassuhn and Marko Kohlrausch, Head of Finance of the City of Wolmirstedt, with two funding decisions. Almost 2.7 million euros are to be used for the “replacement construction of a multifunctional sports facility”, i.e. the construction of a new stadium on Samsweger Straße in Wolmirstedt.

For the second construction phase – the construction of a large pitch with a type B pitching track – the state of Saxony-Anhalt is providing funding of EUR 1,180,820. For the third construction phase, the construction of a functional building, a further 1,514,554 euros will be provided by the state. The town of Wolmirstedt is also spending around 4 million euros of its own funds to implement both construction measures as part of the stadium construction.

For the construction of the new stadium, topsoil will first be removed and then archaeological fieldwork will take place, which is planned from June 2 to October 30, 2025. As these archaeological excavations have been integrated into the construction of the outdoor facilities, the ground-breaking ceremony will take place earlier than previously planned and is now scheduled for May 22, 2025.

Terracing is also scheduled to take place in 2025, with construction of the sports pitch due to start in March 2026. According to the current planning status, the functional building is to be built from July 2026. Construction is expected to be completed in August 2027. The stadium is currently scheduled to be inaugurated on September 4, 2027.

Representatives of various sports clubs that will use the new stadium in the future were also present at the handover of the funding. The Chairman of the City Council, Felix Zietmann, and the city councillors present also expressed their delight at the funding from the state.

Representatives of various Wolmirstedt sports clubs, Mayor Marlies Cassuhn, Marko Kohlrausch, Head of the City’s Finance Department, and City Council Chairman Felix Zietmann accepted two funding decisions from Klaus Zimmermann, State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior and Sport of the State of Saxony-Anhalt.
