Over 60 years ago, when Ingrid Schmidt happened to be walking past the movie theater in Wolmirstedt, her cousin, who was waiting to get in, persuaded her to come in. Ingrid Schmidt no longer knows what movie was playing. But she never forgets that Albrecht, who later became her husband, was there. “That’s how it all came about,” recalls the Wolmirstedt native, who has now celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary with her husband.
Among others, Wolmirstedt’s deputy mayor Jens Sonnabend congratulated them on their diamond wedding anniversary with a gift. And, of course, the entire Schmidt family. When the two children Ellen and Roland, the four grandchildren with their partners and the little great-granddaughter are there, there is always something going on at the Schmidts’ home. This was also the case when the whole family went on a cruise to Norway to celebrate their special anniversary.
And how did Ingrid and Albrecht Schmidt manage so many years of marriage together? “We always did everything together,” says Ingrid Schmidt. When her husband went fishing, for example, they packed a tent for the children to stay in, Mrs. Schmidt cooked and everyone was together. The couple always took life as it came, “and it’s still going well today,” reveals Ingrid Schmidt.
