Children must be registered now

All children who reach the age of 6 by June 30, 2027 will be required to attend school at the start of the following school year 2027/2028. In accordance with a circular issued by the Ministry of Education, they must be registered at their local public elementary school by March 1, 2026. Children who reach the age of five by June 30, 2027 can be registered. Parents whose children were deferred in the previous year can also submit their documents.

Registration forms should be obtained from the appropriate public elementary school. In Wolmirstedt, children are enrolled according to catchment areas. The child’s birth certificate or family register must be presented when registering.

All school-age children in the catchment area of the “Adolph Diesterweg” elementary school who have reached the age of six by June 30, 2027 must be registered at the elementary school office on Monday, February 9, 2026 between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 3 p.m. or Thursday, February 12, 2026 between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. or 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The “Adolph Diesterweg” elementary school is holding an open day on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 3 to 5 pm. This date can also be used to register school-age children.

All school-age children in the catchment area of the “Johannes Gutenberg” elementary school who have reached the age of six by June 30, 2027 must be registered at the elementary school office on Monday, January 19, 2026, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. or on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. The “Johannes Gutenberg” elementary school is holding an open day on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 2.30 to 5 pm. This date can also be used to register school-age children.

If a child is to attend an elementary school that is located outside the defined catchment area of the public elementary school responsible according to the main place of residence, the legal guardians must submit an application for an exception. The application must be sent to the elementary school originally responsible according to the catchment area. The application can be obtained from the relevant elementary school. Applications for enrollment outside of the defined catchment area are decided upon by the State Education Authority after a justified application has been submitted by the legal guardians.
