- The state election will take place on September 6, 2026. Polling hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The election notices sent to eligible voters by August 16, 2026, specify the electoral district and the polling place where the eligible voter is to cast their ballot.
- The absentee ballot committees will meet at 3:00 p.m. at Wolmirstedt City Hall, located at August-Bebel-Str. 25, 39326 Wolmirstedt, to tally the absentee ballot results.
- Any eligible voter who does not have a voter registration card may vote only at the polling place in the electoral district in which they are registered on the voter roll. Voters must bring their voter notification to the polls and have their ID card, passport, or other official photo ID ready. They must provide proof of identity upon request by the election board.
The voter registration card must be presented at the polls.
Voting is conducted using official ballots. On Election Day, each eligible voter is given an official ballot at the appropriate polling place. Each eligible voter has one first-choice vote and one second-choice vote.
The ballot contains, in the order of the nomination numbers,
a) for the election in the electoral district, the names of the candidates on the approved district nomination lists, printed in black, along with the party name and, if applicable, the party’s abbreviated name as specified in its bylaws; for candidates who are not running on behalf of a political party, the designation “Independent candidate,” and to the right of each candidate’s name, a box for marking,
b) For elections based on state nomination lists, the names of the parties—in blue print—and, if available, their statutory abbreviations, as well as the names of the first three candidates on each approved state nomination list, and a circle to the left of the party name for identification purposes.
- The eligible voter provides:
a) casts the first vote in such a way th

The ballot must be marked by the eligible voter in a voting booth within the polling station or in a separate room, without being observed, and must be placed in the ballot box in a folded state so that the markings cannot be seen by bystanders.
- The voting process, as well as the subsequent tabulation and determination of the election results in the polling district, are open to the public. Anyone may attend, provided that doing so does not interfere with the conduct of the election. During polling hours, any attempt to influence voters through sound, text, or images, as well as any collection of signatures, is prohibited in and around the building where the polling place is located, as well as immediately in front of the building’s entrance (Section 30 of the Election Law of the State of Saxony-Anhalt).
- Voters who have a poll card may vote in the electoral district for which the poll card was issued,
a) by casting a vote in any polling district within this electoral district, or
b) by mail-in ballot
participate.
Anyone who wishes to vote by mail must obtain an official ballot, an official ballot envelope, and an official mail-in ballot envelope from the municipality, and must send their mail-in ballot—containing the ballot (in the sealed ballot envelope) and the signed voting certificate to the address indicated on the election envelope in time for it to be received there no later than 6:00 p.m. on Election Day. The absentee ballot may also be delivered in person to the specified location. For absentee voting, the eligible voter must be provided with an information sheet based on the model in Appendix 22 of the State Election Regulations.
- Each eligible voter may exercise the right to vote only once and only in person. A representative may not exercise the right to vote on behalf of the eligible voter (Section 4(3) of the Election Law of the State of Saxony-Anhalt).
A voter who is unable to read or who is prevented from casting a ballot due to a disability may seek the assistance of another person to cast a ballot. Such assistance is limited to technical help in expressing a voting decision that the eligible voter has made and articulated on their own. Assistance is not permitted if it is provided through undue influence, if it replaces or alters the voter’s self-determined formation of will or decision, or if the person providing assistance has a conflict of interest (Section 4(4) of the Election Law of the State of Saxony-Anhalt).
Anyone who votes without authorization, or who otherwise causes an election to produce an incorrect result, or who falsifies the result, shall be punished by imprisonment for up to five years or by a fine. A person also votes without authorization if, within the scope of permissible assistance, they cast a vote contrary to the voter’s expressed choice or without the voter having expressed a choice. An attempt to commit this offense is punishable (§ 107a, paras. 1 and 3 of the Criminal Code).
