Winter season over: Wolmirstedt’s building yard starts its summer service and begins mowing and planting
The Wolmirstedt municipal building yard has started its summer service. This means that work such as mowing, planting and maintaining flowerbeds and green spaces is once again the focus of the 15 employees of the building yard. At the beginning of spring, they have already put around 1,300 plants in the ground.
As yard manager Martin Holly explains, mowing in the city center and in the districts is carried out according to a strict cycle. “This has become established in recent years. Citizens don’t need to worry that we’ll forget to mow areas, we keep an eye on everything.” The building yard’s summer service technology was recently checked and minor defects were rectified. The mowing service will include the new tractor that the town of Wolmirstedt purchased for its building yard just a few weeks ago.
The vehicle, which can be equipped with special attachments for various tasks, has already been put to full use in the winter service. As Martin Holly explains, the winter service went off without a hitch and without any technical failures. Around 60 tons of road salt were used in Wolmirstedt and the districts during the 2024/25 winter season.
According to the head of the building yard, many thanks go to the employees of the building yard. On the days when there was snow and ice, at least ten of them were always on permanent duty. This ensured that at least one gritting and shovelling operation was carried out throughout the city by 6 am.
By the way: If, contrary to expectations, there is another onset of winter, the Wolmirstedt municipal depot is also prepared for this. In this case, the summer service will be suspended and the gritting vehicles will be brought out again.
