Deutsche Bahn (DB) plans new bridge between Rogätzer Straße and district road – DB has examined four solutions – idea came from the city council
(Leipzig, August XX, 2024)
Deutsche Bahn (DB) and the town of Wolmirstedt have found a solution for a new level crossing in the area of the station.
As part of the early public participation process, Deutsche Bahn took on board the comments and wishes of citizens and representatives of the town.
From this, it developed, tested and compared four variants for crossing the railroad tracks.
DB is now planning to continue with the so-called variant C approved by the city council.
According to this, a bridge will connect Rogätzer Straße and the K1172 district road in future as a replacement for the level crossing in Glindenberger Straße.
The idea for this came from the city council.
The planners have adapted the proposal so that the bridge can create a new road east of the Handwerkerring industrial estate and west of the railroad facilities along the high-voltage line to the Rogätzer Straße junction.
This will extend the route for motorists into the city by around four minutes.
For pedestrians and cyclists, an additional new underpass will be created near the station.
In addition to variant C, DB has also examined three other variants: an underpass at the current location of the level crossing in Glindenberger Straße (variant
A), a new road bridge between Seegrabenstraße and Handwerkerring (variant
B) and the possibility of a bypass (north-east bypass; variant D).
The Eastern Corridor North is a 250-kilometer expansion route.
It runs from Uelzen in Lower Saxony via Stendal and Magedeburg to Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt.
The Eastern Corridor North connects the economic region of Central Germany with the seaports on the North Sea, links key industries and offers an attractive
route to Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
With this project, DB is creating a piece of Strong Rail, making transport greener and creating capacity for shifting freight traffic from road to rail.
With the expansion, DB is also adapting the infrastructure, safety technology, overhead lines and level crossings to the requirements of future transport.
As part of the expansion, a new solution for the level crossing in Bahnhofsstraße in Wolmirstedt will also be necessary, as barrier closing times will increase dramatically in future due to the increase in traffic.
