Series of fires in Wolmirstedt: Mayor Marlies Cassuhn thanks firefighters for their work and hopes for clarification
There is currently a series of fires in Wolmirstedt that is keeping the volunteer firefighters and citizens on their toes. There were several arsons in January, which the police are now investigating. Mayor Marlies Cassuhn hopes that the perpetrator or perpetrators of the series of fires will soon be caught. She expressly thanks the volunteer firefighters for their work, who are on hand day and night, always putting themselves in dangerous situations, extinguishing fires and preventing worse things from happening.
As the city administration learned from the Börde police station, six cars have burned in Wolmirstedt since January 6, 2025, and there has also been a house fire and a garbage can fire, each of which was caused by arson. The police are currently evaluating the evidence that has been collected and unknown persons are being investigated for all arson offenses. There are currently no indications that the arsons were politically motivated, but this line of investigation is also being pursued.
The police are now increasing their presence in Wolmirstedt. External forces from the state police will be deployed primarily in the evening and at night.
The employees of the municipal public order office are also aware of the situation. However, the incidents do not fall within their area of responsibility. While the employees of the public order office are responsible for recording and preventing administrative offenses, the police are responsible for investigating and preventing criminal offenses. Arson is a criminal offense.
