Opening of Wolmirstedt swimming pool further delayed
The opening of the Wolmirstedt swimming pool in the 2026 outdoor pool season has been postponed further. At the beginning of May, the town council had to break the news that the opening, which usually takes place on May 15 every year, would be delayed. Now this is moving even further into the distance.
This is due to extensive technical work, in particular the replacement of central pump systems. The administration is having all the pumps in the swimming pool replaced. These were already very outdated and absolutely had to be replaced. The measure will cost around 121,600 euros. As 80 percent of the project is funded by the Leader program, it had to be implemented this year before the swimming season, otherwise the city would have had to return the funding.
Initially, however, there were delivery problems for important pump parts. In the meantime, the pools in the swimming pool had been filled. However, because the delivery of the pumps was further delayed and the very ferrous water could not be circulated, it became unsightly and discolored the pools. It was therefore drained again. The pools will be refilled in the next few days.
The pumps have now been delivered and installed. An electrical company is now in the process of installing the necessary measurement and control technology. Once the pools have been filled, the moment of truth will follow: only then can the new pumps be switched on and the experts check whether they really are working smoothly.
If this is the case, the water must be circulated by the pumps for at least another week. This is followed by the next essential step: the health authority takes a water sample and releases the pools to the public after a positive analysis.
At the moment, no one can make a reliable statement about exactly when the swimming pool will open. However, the aim is to start the swimming season by the start of the summer vacations.
The town of Wolmirstedt very much regrets not being able to open its baths on time this year. The administration would like to thank the citizens for their understanding and is working closely with the specialist companies involved to complete the outstanding work as quickly as possible.
