There’s a lot going on at the after-school program

Children Get an Up-Close Look at the Fire Department and Police

Summer vacation is in full swing; many families are on vacation, and there are currently no classes taking place at the elementary schools in Wolmirstedt. But that doesn’t mean things are boring there. That’s mainly thanks to the after-school care staff of the city of Wolmirstedt. Even during the summer break, they look after many girls and boys at the summer day camp and have put together a fantastic, extensive program for them.

The very first week of summer vacation kicked off with several highlights: We were joined by the Wolmirstedt Fire Department, police officers from the Börde Police Station, and first-aid experts from the German Red Cross. Among other things, the children learned: How do you apply a bandage? What is a rescue blanket used for? And how is blood pressure actually measured?

They were allowed to explore the insides of police cars and fire trucks and even climb into the basket of the Wolmirstedt Volunteer Fire Department’s turntable ladder. The girls and boys were also allowed to try on real firefighter gear, and the firefighters explained to them all the equipment and types of hoses found in the various emergency vehicles.

During the second week of summer vacation, the children enjoyed outdoor games that they built and crafted themselves. The rest of the summer vacation will also be packed with activities. For example, there’s still a trip to the movies, a scavenger hunt, a campfire, water experiments, a trip to the pool, and much more on the schedule.
