The Water Framework Directive adopted by the EU in 2000 laid the foundations for improving the ecological status of our rivers and streams. In particular, the lack of permeability for fish and frogs, as well as artificially straightened watercourses, have led to a noticeable impoverishment of naturalness and a reduction in beauty and biodiversity.
In cooperation with the planning office “IHU Geologie und Analytik GmbH”, the LHW – Landesbetrieb für Hochwasserschutz und Wasserwirtschaft Sachsen-Anhalt will draw up a watercourse development concept (GEK) for the landscape units Altmarkheiden, Dessauer Elbtal, Ohreniederung, Drömling, Magdeburger Börde, Börde Hügelland and Ohre-Aller Hügelland in accordance with the requirements of the Water Framework Directive. The aim of this concept development is to highlight potential for renaturation, identify barriers in the course of the stream and promote near-natural watercourse development. Bringing together the various stakeholders in the region and working together on an ecologically compatible future for watercourses is a special opportunity offered by this project.
In developing the catalog of measures, 279 km of watercourse from the spatially contiguous catchment areas of the main watercourses Ohre and Beber are considered. The main focus here is on the interests of regional agriculture, flood protection and neighboring agriculture. Examples of measures with a high ecological impact include the renaturation of sections of riverbank in order to restore a dynamic river course.
Many ideas have already been incorporated into the project and will be evaluated by fall 2024. Further information and a detailed presentation of the project can be found on our website www.gek-ohre-beber.de. Under “PAG” we would also like to invite you to participate in the redesign process with your suggestions and comments via the online participation GEK “Ohre/Beber”. Your ideas and suggestions are actively discussed in a working group accompanying the project and the results are then made available to the planning offices working on the project.
An information event will be held for adjacent land users on 15.04.2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bornstedt village community center, Hauptstraße 12, 39343 Hohe Börde. Please register in advance by telephone or e-mail using the contact details below.
We are already looking forward to your participation and would like to thank all interested parties. If you have any questions, please contact our project employee Ms. Scholkofsky by phone: 03491/617516 or by e-mail: scholkofsky.a@lgsa.de.
