Election workers are needed

Bundestag election on February 23, 2025: City of Wolmirstedt still looking for election helpers

Preparations are in full swing at the Wolmirstedt city administration for the early Bundestag election on Sunday, February 23, 2025. City electoral officer Nancy Heynemann has her hands full. Among other things, she is still looking for polling assistants. For the ten polling stations in Wolmirstedt and the districts, 120 electoral assistants are needed.

We are looking for volunteer electoral assistants who are German citizens on election day, have reached the age of 18, have lived in the Federal Republic of Germany for at least three months before the election or otherwise usually reside there and are not excluded from the right to vote under Section 13 of the Federal Election Act. As part of their work, polling assistants check the polling card and ID, for example, hand out ballot papers and help count the votes. The work at the polling station is recognized with a refreshment allowance of 25 to 35 euros, depending on the activity. There are different areas of operation. Polling stations in the city are open from 8 am to 6 pm on election day. Counting takes place afterwards. The helpers are divided into two shifts so that not everyone has to be present the whole day. For all poll workers, the assignment ends when the count is complete. If you would like to become a poll worker, you can register on the Wolmirstedt city website at https://stadtwolmirstedt.de/wahlhelfer-gesucht/.

The election notifications for the 9,546 Wolmirstedt citizens entitled to vote (as of November 13, 2024) are currently being sent out and should be delivered by February 2. Anyone who has not received an election notification can report this from February 3. In this case, citizens must apply for their polling card directly at the town hall. “It would be nice if affected citizens would do this as soon as possible and not on the last possible day,” asks Nancy Heynemann. This is because the deadlines for the election scheduled at short notice are much shorter than for normally scheduled elections anyway.

Voters are also asked to be patient when voting by post. According to Nancy Heynemann, anyone applying for postal voting will certainly only receive the necessary documents around two weeks before the election. The city election officer is not only keeping an eye on all deadlines and regulations for the Bundestag election, but also those for the upcoming district council election in the Börde district on March 16, 2025 and for the mayoral election in the city of Wolmirstedt on September 7, 2025. Election helpers can already register for these elections on the city administration’s website.

The German Bundestag is the representative body of the Federal Republic of Germany and its most important legislative body. The 21st German Bundestag will consist of 630 members of parliament. They are elected by German citizens over the age of 18 in a general, direct, free, equal and secret ballot for a four-year term.
