The City Congratulates Residents on Special Anniversaries

Annemarie Künzel is celebrating her 90th birthday

Wolmirstedt Mayor Mike Steffens congratulates Annemarie Künzel on her 90th birthday.

Annemarie Künzel from Wolmirstedt celebrated a special birthday. The elderly woman has turned 90. She is clearly comfortable with her age; she still takes care of her own apartment, cooks, bakes, and cleans. Her family always knows they can count on Annemarie Künzel.

Her son Thomas and daughter Evelyn are always there for her, as are the four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who have since joined the family. “My grandchildren always come over on Sundays to help me in the garden or with housework—I can always count on them,” says the cheerful Wolmirstedt resident.

She moved to the city in 1982, worked for many years as a staff manager at the district construction company, and, together with her late husband, ran an income tax assistance association, through which she is known to many residents.

On the occasion of his 90th birthday, Wolmirstedt’s mayor, Mike Steffens, also offered his congratulations and presented him with a gift and a certificate.

Franz Haiduk is also celebrating his 90th birthday

What keeps you young once you’ve reached the age of 90? Franz Haiduk is convinced it’s definitely family. The Wolmirstedt resident should know—he has 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. And of course, they were all there to celebrate this very special birthday—the big 90—with him.

Franz Haiduk and his family came to Germany in 1966 and moved to Zielitz in 1973, where the trained miner began working at the potash mine that had just opened. His wife also worked there. The couple worked opposite shifts so that someone would always be home with the children. “It was exhausting at times, but it was a really great time,” recall Franz Haiduk and his wife.

In 2006, the couple moved to Wolmirstedt so they could have doctors, shopping, and other amenities more conveniently located right on their doorstep. Wolmirstedt’s mayor, Mike Steffens, saw for himself on the honoree’s 90th birthday that family is what matters most to him. He stopped by with a gift and a certificate and offered his heartfelt congratulations to Franz Haiduk. Franz showed the mayor all the family photos on the wall and explained that he and his wife would continue to visit their children and grandchildren for as long as they possibly could.

With such a strong sense of family, there’s certainly no room for boredom.

The town of Wolmirstedt extends its heartfelt congratulations and wishes Mr. Haiduk good health!
